had a sudden thought about things
and this story just came to mind
part a is about "what is love"
part b is about "what is a fling"
Here the story goes...
One fine day, a monk and a young man was talking leisurely in a garden.
A big pretty garden filled with rows and rows of exotic and gorgeous flowers.
The young man decided to confide in the monk and ask him on his views on love.
The monk smiled and told him to walk around the garden and find a flower which is the prettiest and come back when he has chosen one.
The only rule is that he cannot turn back.
The man went off confidently and came back after some time.
The monk looked at the flower in his hand and asked him why he chose this particular flower.
The man replied, " There were so many for me to choose from and i missed a couple of flowers that caught my mind because i wanted to look around for better ones. After awhile i decided on this as i do not want to pass it up and regret later as i could not turn back."
The monk nodded his head and said, " That's what love is all about. At the start, when you see a pretty flower you are unsure, undecided if this was it so you kept walking. However, after passing up a couple of flowers, you realised that those flowers you met earlier were the better ones. Naturally you will be more careful not to mess up the next chance when you see the flower that captures your attention. Its the same theory with love. Once you miss a chance, you lost it. There is no chance of turning back.
The man thought deeply then asked the monk about what is a fling.
The monk told him to go back to the garden and pick another flower, however this time he is able to compare and turn back to where he previously went.
The man went off confidently again this time but came back 2 hours later confused and upset.
In his hands were three half wilted flowers.
The man explained, " There were so many exquisite and beautiful flowers that i have never seen before in my life. I picked one, compared to another, threw the old one away and selected the new one. Yet, i could never find one flower that is the best. All of them looked so pretty and i was so baffled on which should i pick and in the end i ended up with three. They were half wilted all because i held on to them too long without water."
The monk responded to him patiently, " The reason for your confusion was due to the large quantity of flowers that seemed equally stunning. By enabling you to turn back, you were able to choose and compare all of them but it made the decision of picking one particular flower difficult. Every one has its own uniqueness and beauty that makes it a waste just to pick only one. Therefore, you took a long time and came back with more than one flower.
A fling is something that is momentarily beautiful and exciting, once it loses its beauty you get pass it quickly and look for another one. It is also hard to only decide on one special one because you get to compare and choose them at the same time.
Love is something that you never know when it comes and the answer will only come to you when you missed it. It is tough to decide whether is the right moment, but by trusting your instincts and not missing the opportunity, love might just be within reach.
